A Belvedere Thank You

Only six short months ago, my husband and I decided to buy our first home and return it to its former glory – a Bed and Breakfast called The Belvedere. For me, this meant leaving a secure research job near Boston for the opportunity to create a vision and a business of my own, but with no guarantee of success. For Matt it meant returning to his childhood neighborhood with a new wife, an old inn, and a law practice still to move from Boston. Pressure anyone?

Through all of this change, one of the many unexpected gifts we have received are the words of encouragement and thanks from our guests. At the end of every weekend, when we opened the leather bound book in our parlor, a gift from our very first visitors, or found little notes of thanks in the rooms, the comments from our guests let us know we were on the right track.

We especially want to thank those of you who took the time to write about your experience at The Belvedere on travel sites as these have led others to our door.

As I look back on our first summer, I am filled with thanks and appreciation for all of our fantastic guests. You joined on our new journey and we will be forever grateful for your adventurous spirit. We so appreciated your words of encouragement that we reprinted a selection of our favorites. These and many others kept us going as we learned how to be innkeepers.

We are looking forward to seeing you all again!

All the very best,

Sarah and Matt Fitzsimmons

      • Thank you! We are planning on bringing my mom, a couple of cousins and there parents on a road trip in the fall 2014. We have to do a bit of saving first… We’ll let you know when we have more information. Happy Holiday!

  2. Fantastic! Happy Holidays to you too!

  3. Hello,
Congratulations on buying such a wonderful B&B, me and my husband Dave have visited Sue and Robert several times during the last few years and they will be missed greatly. I do have a comment though, You mention in your blog in September that you bought the Belvedere and brought it back to it’s ” former glory”! I for one can’t imagine that you had to do any work at all since I know that Sue and Robert painfully restored the lovely home themselves.

    • Hi Peggy,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment on the blog! It’s so nice to hear from past guests. I do hope that you’ll be able to come visit The Belvedere again soon. Robert and Sue have been great to get to know, and we see them around town every once in a while. You are absolutely right, they did a wonderful job restoring this old house. When you get into an almost 200 year old building you never know what you’ll find and we are always pleasantly surprised with the meticulous work they did. My reference on the blog was to re-opening The Belvedere, because it was closed for a short time before we bought the house. We were so happy to re-open such a beautiful and historic home to continue it’s long history as an Inn.
